Who are you, Tomorrow?

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Above: Tomorrow Corporation. “Who am I?” “Where am I?” “What year is this?”

Ever since our new game Little Inferno was announced last week, the response and questions and support have ignited a fire in our tummies and freshly energized us to finish this up! Interestingly though, we’ve noticed there is some confusion regarding who, exactly, is building Little Inferno. Is it 2DBOY, developers of World of Goo? EA? The San Francisco Fire Department? Tomorrow Corporation would like to state that it is, in fact, a brand new indie game developer, consisting of some of the same people, but not owned by or converted from any other company.

The indie game scene is light and liquid like the movie industry, and new groups of friends come together to work on new single projects all the time. Tomorrow Corporation PR representatives would like to take this opportunity to directly address some very common misunderstandings!

PR RepresentativeIs Little Inferno 2DBOY’s next game?
Nope, but Kyle Gabler of World of Goo / 2DBOY is now also working with Tomorrow Corporation. Indie game kids frequently work with multiple people.

Did 2DBOY rename itself to Tomorrow Corporation?
No. Although, confusion is understandable: Kyle Gabler is a co-founder of both 2DBOY and also Tomorrow Corporation. Allan Blomquist, another co-founder of Tomorrow Corporation, helped 2DBOY bring World of Goo to Wii back in 2008. And Kyle Gray, the remaining co-founder of Tomorrow Corporation, is longtime friends with everyone at 2DBOY.

Does 2DBOY still exist?
Yes indeed! Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler still run 2DBOY and have not ruled out a follow up, one day, to World of Goo. Ron and Kyle are now neighbors.

Is EA making Little Inferno?
Nope, although all three members have, at some point, also worked with EA. Tomorrow Corporation PR would also like to point out that EA would never make a game like Little Inferno because it “is not likely to ever actually make any money”.

Didn’t all the Henry Hatsworth guys go make a company called Dreamrift?
Kyle Gray led the Hatsworth team at EA.  After they finished, all 7 team members went their separate ways: Ryan and Peter started Dreamrift, while Kyle Gray left for Tomorrow Corporation.

Why does Little Inferno look like World of Goo? Is Little Inferno basically just World of Goo with flaming balls?
Little Inferno is, in fact, an entirely different game from World of Goo! Although Kyle Gabler’s art style has never progressed past the 4th grade level. “I can draw a kitty!”

Who exactly IS Tomorrow Corporation, then?
Tomorrow Corporation is made of two Kyles and an Allan, who all met in grad school at Carnegie Mellon. You can find handy bios and photos here!

Wait wait, can you represent all of the above questions in Venn Diagram?

Handy Indie Venn Diagram

Ok we hope that helps explain things a bit. Indie game kids sure are unwieldy!

Announcing Liam Blomquist!

Monday, August 1st, 2011

We’re proud to announce the latest addition to the Tomorrow Corporation family, and first life time employee, Liam Blomquist!

While the three of us have been steadily cranking away on Little Inferno, Allan and his wife Katrina’s little side project beat us to the punch, releasing a little over a week ago.

And what a release it was – just look at those strong little hands! Those are the hands of a master programmer or a highly skilled artist.

If it’s the dark arts he fancies, we’ll enroll him in one of our various producer courses, where he’ll learn how to manage a timeline, balance a spreadsheet, and perform other occult acts.

Congratulations Allan and Katrina!

New Game and Other Shocking Updates

Monday, August 9th, 2010

We finally managed to sneak out of our work cave to put together some updates.

1. Article in Games TM Magazine

Chris McMahon at indie-friendly Games TM magazine created a beautiful 6-page article in issue 98, scanned in here (pdf). Included in the article was this rare, very old, photo:

Above: Tomorrow Corporation’s founders, circa 1910, founded the
company to make downloadable games. “The world wasn’t ready”.

2. New Indie Game Has a Name

Fire and smoke and screaming have been billowing out of our R&D department for months. The new game is something called “Little Inferno“. More info soon.

3. New kittens!

“Making indie games is hard,” says DeeDee the kitten.

Tomorrow Corporation Announces Existence of Tomorrow Corporation

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 8, 2010: Tomorrow Corporation is pleased to announce the existence of Tomorrow Corporation, a massive new “indie game” studio.

“We’re literally bursting with cash,” said a Tomorrow Corporation PR spokeswoman, “because if there’s one thing that makes money these days, it’s indie games.”

“For years, giant corporations have been hurt by scrappy indie studios hogging the limelight with titles like Crayon Physics Deluxe, Braid, World of Goo, and Super Meat Boy. To those tiny, un-American, indie developers, Tomorrow Corporation would like to deliver a message: Your reign of terror ends… Tomorrow!

Tomorrow Corporation’s massive Human Resources Department has recently acquired a glut of indie sellouts, including developers Allan Blomquist, Kyle Gabler, and Kyle Gray – all former grad students from Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center and co-founders of the wasteful and profitless Experimental Gameplay Project.

More recently, Gabler co-founded the indie studio 2D BOY, responsible for creating the reprehensible game World of Goo, to which Blomquist also regrettably contributed his indie talents. Gray recently created the unpatriotic Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure, a game about sipping tea.

Tomorrow Corporation has yet to announce its first indie game title, but would like to remind fans to check back frequently for exciting new information.

“The secret to a truly great indie game is that special human touch,” says the spokeswoman, “which our producers have scheduled for insertion shortly before the product ships.”

“Let’s all remember,” she added before floating away in the official Tomorrow Corporation blimp, “the future … is Tomorrow!”
