Ok, NOW Little Inferno is Officially Launched

Little Inferno Wii U Header

Little Inferno is finally officially released! The final 1.0 version is available for download / update at the following locations:

  • Uncle Sam Bam BamTomorrow Corporation (Windows now, Mac/Linux unlock later)
You can get it here. If you already got the game and would like to update to the final build, just re-download from the Humble Store. If you lost your download link, you can always retrieve it here. This purchase also comes with a Steam key.
  • Steam (Windows now, Mac/Linux unlock later)
You can also get the game directly on Steam. (Should be final in 2 or 3 hours, if not already by the time you read this.)
  • Nintendo Wii U eShop (Wii U)
You can get the Wii U version directly from your brand new Wii U console!

The Mac and Linux versions are still in progress, but let us know if you’d like to join a beta for either platform.

MEANWHILE, we’ve had no idea what players would think of this weird game, so it’s a relief to start seeing reviews come in like this one from JayIsGames:

“But what really makes Little Inferno work, more than its striking original design and simple addictive gameplay, is its clever storytelling. I bought Little Inferno for myself because after reading all the information and watching the trailers, I still wasn’t sure what it was all about. I sat down to play it to evaluate it, and couldn’t quite pull myself away from it until I finished it hours later. If you’re not going for 100% combo completion, you can likely spend around four hours or more on it, but in that period of time Little Inferno manages to convey a surprisingly affecting story and some unexpected emotion. I may have possibly considered the notion of maybe tearing up a little bit at the end. It’s beautiful, sneaky, strange, and with a style all its own, and serves up its addictively simple gameplay with a dose of heart to boot. Little Inferno is the sort of game that sneaks up on you, and if its striking atmosphere and intriguing concepts draw you in, it’ll keep you warm as long as you park yourself in front of the hearth. Just don’t forget… you can go as far as you want.” Full review here >>

    Congraturations! πŸ˜€

  3. Goodslove says:

The game is awesome, please make a behind the scenes or making of stuff just like world of goo.Love you guys!

  4. Henri says:

I first played it on wine with very bad framerate and thought it was very good. Then I tried it on Windows and I realised I had waited for burnables too much on linux πŸ™‚ Achievments coming to steamed version?

    • puggsoy says:

I’m also wondering if you guys are gonna add achievements. Even though the game isn’t really supposed to have a goal, they could be sort of progress achievements (for example whenever you get a catalogue or a certain number of combos).

Anyway well done on the official release! I can see that in Steam it now says “Little Inferno” instead of “Little Inferno Beta” πŸ˜‰

  5. SarahF says:

    Hi team !

Well Little Inferno was available in french during beta, but now it’s in English only. An update is coming ? thanks πŸ™‚

    • Kyle Gabler says:

The game is still playable in en, fr, es, nl, and de. To modify which language the game appears in, edit your settings.txt file in:

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and later:
      C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Little Inferno\

      Windows XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Little Inferno\

  6. Sheeft says:

I’m totally in for the Mac OS X beta.
I filled your previous form (which turned out to be for windows ?) and already bought the game of course.

    Congratulations though.

  7. AdamK says:

One Linux beta on the go, please!

  8. knopwob says:

I’ve played through the game on linux with wine (runs without problems), but I wouldn’t mind a second playthrough with the linux beta πŸ˜‰

  9. Matt W says:

Do you guys have release notes for the 1.0 version? Are there major differences between 0.8 and 1.0?

  10. Simon says:

I just got send here by “northernlion” ( youtube.com/user/Northernlion ) who tried it out. I just love the concept of the game, it is very… strange indeed.
Normally i wouldn’t even have thought about it but the preview (and the announcement to port this game to Linux) just got me to buy it instantly.
[The fact that you guys are selling the game via humble-store just confirmed my choice to buy the game.]

I have to say The concept is nice, the graphics are [like I’m used to from WorldOfGoo] really beautiful and fitting to the game-“story”. The soundtrack i heared so far ingame and in northernlions preview goes well with the game and graphics.

Altogether I have to say this game is very nice and… interesting?!

PS: I would like to “enter” to the Linux beta once it is available.

  11. theFlash says:

First off, like to say to the team the Wii U version is awesome and the other versions probably are too!

Do you guys plan to add a multiplayer mode?

“Fire is more fun with friends”!

  12. Samuel says:

Hey, congratulations on shipping the game! I haven’t finished it yet but so far it is super rad. I was just wondering when the full soundtrack is going to be available, because it is amazing!

    Thank you and best regards,
    Samuel

  13. Eric says:

Please add Vsync to the game. The pc version is running at 600fps and using 100% gpu processing. That means itΒ΄s getting hotter and hotter and the fan is getting louder and louder.

Are you trying to create a Little Inferno inside my pc case?

    • KyleGray says:

We’re putting together an FAQ section, but for anyone that encounters this issue just do the following:

      1. Press [Windows Key] + [R] to bring up the Run dialog and enter in:
      %APPDATA%\Little Inferno

      2. Open the file called settings.txt that comes up in that folder.

      3. Set vsync from ‘0’ to ‘1’

      • chibi-robo says:

cheers I noticed my graphics card was making more noise playing littleInferno than gta4 when I was playing them both yesterday πŸ™‚

  14. Nick says:

where are my achievements? and I want to buy or download the soundtrack!

  15. Shogoky says:

    Great game!!!
I’d love to enter in the linux beta!

  16. Eddie says:

Count me in for the Mac beta please!

  17. Ivar says:

    Amazing game!

While everything struck me as very well-crafted, the by far most enjoyable aspect to me is the soundtrack – are there any plans of releasing a full score in the future?

  18. Roto13 says:

Feel free to not approve this comment if it’s not ok, but I wrote a review, in case anyone is interested. I haven’t seen enough Little Inferno reviews around. http://www.honestgamers.com/reviews/11744.html

    Hi
this looks awesome. I’m a huge fan of you guys. I loved World of Goo. I bought it 3 times for my ipad, Nexus 7 and Steam!
Any chance of this coming to Android or PS Vita? I dont get much time to play on my PC/Mac anymore so it would be awesome to have it on the go.
I’m happy to join the mac beta by the way!

  22. SmΓΆret says:

Hi, I just loved World of Goo on iOS so will you release a iOS version of Little Inferno? Can’t find anything about a iOS release.. :/

  29. raindog469 says:

May I join the Linux beta?

I don’t even care what the gameplay is like; I just love your aesthetic and storytelling abilities. I look forward to buying it on every platform I can, as I have with WoG. (I bought Hatsworth too, but only once.) I just don’t have anything around with Windows on it.

Best of luck, whether I make the grade or not.
    Rob

  30. Kyle Gabler says:

Mac/Linux beta people, all added. More info soon.

    • Matt says:

      Hey Kyle,

Just wanted to ask, how soon is soon? As i haven’t seen any other info about the beta’s yet, or am i just looking in the wrong places?

  31. momo1526 says:

Not to sound annoying but was I added?

  32. Kringel84 says:

I watched 5 minutes of gameplay on YouTube, and now it’s hard to wait. So: Is it still possible to join the Linux beta? Could test it with the propietary nvidia and the open source nouveau driver, which work pretty well for me.

That would be sooooo cool. πŸ™‚ Thanks in advance!

    (if not, I’ll wait happily)

  33. Adam says:

Here’s something I wanted to ask the devs: was Little Inferno based on Plato’s allegory of the cave? There seem to be a lot of parallels between the two…

  34. Elena says:

I would LOVE to join the Mac beta. The game seems so interesting and fun and I REALLY want to play it. I’m not too late to ask to join the mac beta right? I hope I’m not too late.

  47. Ryan Johnson says:

Mac Beta, even though it may be a bit late!

  48. kringel says:

If this is OK to be published here:

I experienced, while waiting for the Linux Beta (looking up the realeases of ‘World of Goo’ can we say January?) Little Inferno 1.1 is running pretty well with Wine 1.4.1. Even on x86_64. The installer however crashes if you don’t have Kernel based modesetting (KMS). So for the installer you need to reboot with a free driver (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (for Nvidia), …-radeon/ati, or …-modesetting, or …-vesa, or …-fbdev etc.) Make sure you have KMS on the console. If needed, reboot. In your X session run “winecfg” once, leave everything to its default (Windows XP, etc.)

Then run: ” wine msiexec /i ~/Downloads/Little_Inferno_1.1.msi ” Click “Next” a few times. Then for Nvidia card users, uninstall the free driver and install the propietary nvidia driver (e.g. version 304.xx +). Run “nvidia-xconfig” (if necessary, this makes sure you have “nvidia” in your xorg.conf-configuration), put “nomodeset” (or it gets automatically triggered by the nvidia driver) to the command line options in GRUB (e.g. /etc/default/grub) and run “sudo update-grub”, and reboot. After reboot, type:
    echo -e “fullscreen = 1\nlanguage = system\nvolume_music = 1.0\nvolume_sfx= 1.0\nvsync = 1” > ~/.wine/drive_c/users/$USER/Application\ Data/Little\ Inferno/settings.txt

(See: http://tomorrowcorporation.com/faq For Linux/Nvidia vsync works better for me. Languages are: system, de, en, nl, es, fr. Fullscreen is mandatory for me, otherweise I get 1fps. With fullscreen it runs very well.)

And then start it from the Wine-menu (>Wine >Programs >Little Inferno >Little Inferno) or via:
    wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Little\ Inferno/Little\ Inferno.exe

I have OpenGL 2.1 with the propietary Nvidia driver (a bit older GF 7900GS) and Wine 1.4.1.

I you experiencing very low 1-2fps frame rates, Hit Alt+Enter (windowed mode) and Alt+Enter (back in fullscreen) again.

  49. kringel says:

If this is OK to be published here:

(Edit: sorry, I had a very bad typo with the console quotation marks used by the echo-command. Corrected now. Make sure, you use simple ASCII-quotation marks, also named dumb quotes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark_glyphs#Quotation_marks_in_electronic_documents I guess they are replaced by this blog entry.)

Oh am I to late for a mac beta ?? I would love to help out to make this game work 100% for mac :3

  125. sarcasm83 says:

Yeah, I’d really be into an ipad release aswell. Or even a beta test, if there’ll be one. πŸ™‚

I mostly play a bit “heavier” games when I’m on my PC… So when I saw this on steam, I immediately went to the app store and checked if it’s available for ipad, but no such luck πŸ™

Would’ve definately bought it, as it seems the perfect game for it.

I hope you can pull it off eventually πŸ™‚

I can beta test Mac or Linux version if you are still looking for people. I run Ubuntu for linux

  129. Randi Graves says:

If you’re still looking for beta testers for the Mac version, please sign me up! Also, I’d love to see this for iPad and Android mobile versions… If/when you start beta testing for those, I’d be down for those testing opportunities as well… I’ve beta tested things before, so I know what is expected of me… It ain’t my first rodeo!

I would love to sign up for the mac beta, I got the game on steam while it was on sale. But now I have to wait for it to come out on steam. I checked the Tomorrow Corporation website every day waiting for an update but to no avail. It would be awesome to play the game in beta, even if it might be a little buggy.

    Hoi Kyle,

I got Little Inferno from the Humble Bundle. It looks nice, but I don’t get the Linux version working (and Linux is my main OS so I really want it to). I got the following error when starting the game:

    /builddir/LittleInferno/code/runtime/linux/LinuxRender.cpp : 1752
    trace/breakpoint trap

Is this a bug, and if so, is it going to be fixed? Thanks! πŸ™‚

    • Splizard says:

I also have this error, any way to fix it?

    • Antonio Orefice says:

Having this bug with default intel driver:
      mesa-libgl 9.1.3-1
      intel-dri 9.1.3-1
      xf86-video-intel 2.21.8-1

Works on gallium driver, but probably slower.

      chipset is:
Intel Corporation Mobile 945GSE Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

      Will it be fixed?

      • Tomatogoatee says:

I, too, am having this problem with my intel-video based computer.
Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
